ARISTADO! Estudyante Sa UP Cebu, Membro ng NPA, Nahuli ng mga Militar

Six members of the NPA with high-powered firearms were captured in Brgy. Luyang, Mabinay, Negros Oriental on March 3.
It is reported that one of those who was captured is a female student taking up Mass Communication in UP Cebu.

Harassment and extortion

Prior to the capture, there have been several reports from civilians that the NPAs in the area are harassing and extorting people.
It has reached LTC Darrell R. Banez, the commanding officer of 62IB, so he coordinated with the PNP to conduct a security patrol in the area.

Security patrol

While on the security patrol, about 20 or more believed NPA members fired at the troops to retaliate. The gunfight ensued for 45 minutes which led to the capture of 6 members. One of them was a female studying in UP Cebu.

Human rights

The six members who were captured were unharmed. A clear indication that they give importance to Human Rights.
“it is a clear manifestation that the people themselves are tired of these armed NPA Terrorists conducting extortion, harassment and recruitment of minors as terrorists. Furthermore, despite the encounter, the capture of the six Communist Terrorists who were unharmed clearly shows the troops’ adherence to the principles of Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law and Rule of Law with its primacy of preserving human lives. With our continuous combat operation against the communist terrorists, we encourage the CPP-NPA Terrorists to lay down their arms, return to the folds of the law and avail the Government’s Comprehensive Local Integration Program and live a normal and peaceful life.”

Firearms

Recovered from the captured members are six high powered firearms as follows: one M16A1, one M16A1 attached with M203 Grenade launcher, two M4 Rifles, one VLTOR (M16), one AG 43 (M16), rifle grenades, explosives, other warfighting materials, foodstuff and subversive documents.
