Charter Change has been surfacing in the political air today. It has been proposed long before Duterte, at the time of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Many are opposing such drastic change, but then, this time, the campaign shows a strong need for a government transition.
Vice-President Robredo Attends The Mass
On Sunday, political figures, and church leaders gather in University of the Philippines for a mass not just to unite but make a call to oppose ”cha-cha.” Together with the Purple Cross Movement, Vice-President Leni Robredo who recently expressed a desire to lead the opposition attended the mass.
According to the VP, pushing the governmental shift to Federal Government is very untimely and is not the solution for aiding the crisis that the whole country is suffering from. The current problems mentioned are poverty and the ongoing rise in consumer prices due to TRAIN Law. In which such statement is agreed upon by the Manila Auxilliary Bishop Pabillo.
Other Prominent Figure
Apart from Robredo, senators from opposition attend the mass as well. Seen in the event are senators Antonio Trillanes IV, Bam Aquino IV, Kiko Pangilinan, and Risa Hontiveros.
Cha-Cha To Destroy Democracy
In an interview with Bam Aquino, the steering for the Charter Change is a move to postpone 2019 elections and a plan to rule out democracy. The young senator hopes that the President address the current crisis happening in the land today instead of pushing through Cha-Cha.
Bishop Pabillo
Set to the day before State Of The Nation Address of Duterte, Bishop Pabillo states in his homily that the President should inform the Filipinos of the real status of the country. He then believes that the shifting of the government to federalism will not enhance the life of the people.
Other than Cha-Cha, the Catholic Bishops discuss the drug killings which they have been vocal about.
Photos of the event
As expected, when it is a rally of the opposition, it is well documented. Here are the photos of the said movement.
